Fruit Bats: Sub Poppin' since '02
fruit bats have been at it for over a decade, and with their latest and 4th release by sub pop, Tripper, they sound fresher than ever.
never in a million years would i have paired this video with this song, which is exactly why i love everything about it
try to listen to the opening track without it getting stuck in your head for a few days
this one's called Dolly, turn it up

Georgio Moroder, disco pioneer
1969 was a good year for Italian Giorgio Moroder. He'd seen his song Looky Looky become a hit, propelling him into other opportunities he'd never imagined. Catchy tune:
Throughout the 70's, Georgio worked with huge international artists and worked in film scoring, eventually earning multiple Oscars, including one for scoring the theme to Midnight Express. Here he is in 1979, chatting it up in German and playing his score live before a television audience composed primarily of the elderly, by today's standards.
One of his more notable tunes from the same year in this absolute gem of a video:
HAD to throw in this 1977 video for his ultra-disco jam From Here to Eternity:
As for the 80's he really hit his stride, contributing music to films ranging from Top Gun to Flash Dance and American Gigolo to Scarface.
Here's a sweat-inducing disco dancer from the American Gigolo soundtrack:

Holy Ghost! Collabs n Covers to the Next Level
Nancy Whang from LCD Soundsystem and the Juan Maclean joined up with Holy Ghost! to cover an early hit by Ministry. Collectively, they do the original track justice and deliver some smooth, rich disco-synth all along.

Hazlewood Strikes Again
About to eat some purple mashed potatoes, (not sure why they're purple, but they were delicious) when I hear a beautiful tune pour from a 007 theme song collection record spinning in the living room. Amidst all the corny, commercialized and kinda crappy title songs THIS theme evoked emotions and told a story. Another gem produced by the Psychedelic Cowboy himself, Lee Hazlewood.
